Headmaster
I sighed. It would be another year at Welton Academy and I would have to deliver my “great speech” again, which was actually a repetition of last year’s speech, which was in turn the repetition of the year before that. We would be welcoming a new batch of rowdy students. As I walked up to the podium, I wiped the sweat off my brow and greeted the parents looking at me. I started with the school’s values, as usual, and when I ended, I was greeted with a round of applause.
In the afternoon, after the ceremony, I had to, once again, greet all the parents as they left the school. I sighed again. When can I finally retire?
New Student
I straightened my tie, and prepared for my entrance. From today onwards, I would be part of Welton Academy. “Boys! It’s our turn! Now, hurry up!” I breathed out. There would be no mistakes. There could not be. I told myself, as I readied myself with the flag. As the doors opened and we marched in, I could feel everyone’s eyes looking at me. I gripped the flag more firmly, ignoring the cold sweat cascading down the sides of my face. I sat down and breathed a sigh of relief. I had done it, and as I lighted my candle, I was officially part of the school.
